Lifetime subscription offer
Noah Hensley
Question for all of the supporters of this request :) -- What do you all feel an appropriate lifetime subscription price might be (in USD)? Igor and I have talked a fair bit about possibly doing short-lived periods where we offer just a couple lifetime subscriptions that are gone once all the allotted amount have been used (example might be having an offer on Black Friday where we have 10 lifetime subscriptions available, and whoever gets to those 10 first are the only ones that will have it till we do another offer in the future). Nothing in the works, just a curiosity thing at the moment!

As a counter point, when I see a software company offering a service like this and they have a lifetime subscription, it causes me to doubt the stability of the company. Of course I want to pay less for things, but I also don’t want to invest my time into a product that isn’t going to be around because the revenue model isn’t realistic.

Rob: Missed this comment, Rob, sorry. The lifetime model can work for some businesses. The general rule of thumb is to charge 2x or 3x the price of a yearly subscription for lifetime. For us, it would need to be closer to 3x. And the bet is a good portion of users drop off before they eat into profit. Which is sad to say, but hey, someone might switch to something they like better in a couple years. Just the way it goes.
The problem for me would be that Plaid will charge me for the bank connections indefinitely. Anyway, that's why this is a hard thing to offer. Though I do offer it upon request. Counter points are always welcome, thanks Rob 🫡

I love that idea! But am also aware that subscription fees help keeps the app updated, people getting paid, etc. so either way is fine as long as I get frequent updates. If we have subscription fees, I prefer it to be one price for a lifetime. I'm just tired of frequent price increase.

Jelly: That's totally fair! That's exactly why we would only want to do short run offers and limited supply of lifetime subscription offers. A huge part of our ethos is honoring the price that we (as a business) agree on initially with our users. If you sign up with us at $7.99/mo and stay subscribed for example, we haven't got an interest in forcing folks to pay more... we'd much rather reward that loyalty by honoring our initial price agreement. Doesn't mean we won't ever raise prices for net-new users, but Igor and I both agree with you -- subscription price hikes suck, and it's a huge part of why Kualia exists to begin with!
The other thing to note is that a lot of the value in the "lifetime" subscription offers that we'd do in short runs & limited supply would still benefit from the same frequent updates as we do today. Again, really just a way to reward those that are just as committed to Kualia as we are :)
